A 40-YEAR-OLD illegal miner has died in Chambishi after stones fell on him whilst conducting illegal mining activities with other unknown friends at Non-Ferrous Mining Company of Africa (NFCA) mine
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba said a case of sadden and unnatural death was recorded on Saturday around 10:00 hour’s at portal six NFCA mine.
Mr Mweemba said Doreen Lufuma 45 reported that her brother Brian Lufuma 40 died after he was hit by falling stones whilst conducting illegal mining with friends.
“A 40-year-old illegal miner has died after stones fell on him while conducting illegal mining activities in the company of other friends unknown.
“On the material day Brian along with other illegal miners commonly known as Bakafuka were at portal six within NFCA Mine conducting illegal mining activities.
“He was digging in the curve, stones fell and injured him. His friends who are not yet known rushed him to Chambishi government clinic and left him being attended to” Mr Mweemba said
He said the sister was informed and she went to the clinic,the miner died around 14:00 hours” he said.
Mr Mweemba said the matter was reported to police who inspected the body and said it was found with a swollen face, deep cut on the back of the head, a cut on the left leg and bleeding from the nose.
He said the scene of the accident had not yet been visited as the friends who were with him were not yet known to lead the police.
