8 MAKENI FAMILIES EVICTED

...as son to their late employer has sold the farm where they live

By PRINCE MABUMBA

EIGHT families in Lusaka’s Makeni area have been spending nights in the cold for the last two day after being evicted from the farm where they were working since 2015.

These families are part of the people who were working for Friday Ndhlovu’s company in Makeni and never got paid from 2015 to date and their issue of claim is in the high court.

It is alleged that the son to the late Mr Ndhlovu sold part of the farm to an Indian who has secured a court order, engaging bailiffs to evict them from the farm before the issue of their money is concluded in the court.

The affected families have appealed to government to intervene in the matter. The affected families say, it is shocking that the son for their late employer can go ahead to sale the farm before settling their dues. One of the affected families, only identified as Mr Christopher Chipwaya said, the families are spending nights in the cold because they have nowhere to go.

“Our matter has been in court for 8 years now and we are suffering as if we didn’t work. We are appealing to the government to come to our aid.

“Our property has been destroyed because of the rain. We need justice in this matter so that even us we get what we worked for instead of subjecting us to this harsh situation,” he said.
