Worry not over loss in by-elections, Kambwili comforts PF

By NATION REPORTER

The results of the Friday local government by- elections countrywide should not scare or move the Patriotic Front (PF) members because the dynamics are different from a general election, Chishimba Kambwili has said.

Mr Kambwili said the results in the various polls which included the Kapanda Ward of Kasama, Itala Ward of Lunga, Kashikishi Ward of Nsama and Nyatanda Ward of Chavuma were not a true reflection of the wish of the people and will not worry the former ruling party.

He said that the dynamics of a general election were different from that of a by-election and the PF should just continue being united and fostering unity.

Mr Kambwili said during a PF meeting held in Kabwe that the recent results by the Socialist Party which scooped one of the seats was as a result of the party being funded by the socialist countries.

He however said that the PF at the moment did not have money because people were scared to fund it for fear of not being given business.

Mr Kambwili however said the UPND was campaigning for the PF since the ruling party had declared that it shall not entertain defectors from other political parties.

“At the moment it is very difficult for the party to mobilise because most funders are scared to fund the party for fear of not being given business. The results of the local government by-elections should not worry PF because it is not a barometer of how popular the ruling party was,” Mr Kambwili said.

Meanwhile, PF acting president Given Lubinda has said the party was still strong and had soldiered on even after it had lost power.

He said that the PF had managed to stay strong unlike what happened to the MMD which had disintegrated immediately after losing power.

Mr Lubinda said it was unfortunate that the party had lost a candidate in North-Western Province after he was given a job by the UPND government.

“We are not going to rest over the Nyatanda Ward election results and we are to deal with it the same way we did with the Kwacha and Kabushi polls,” he said.
