I AM BEING HUNTED, SAYS SEAN TEMBO – Because what I stated about President Hichilema are facts

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

LET the police arrest me and I am ready to prove in the court of law that what I stated about President Hakainde Hichilema are facts, says Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo.

But when contacted for a comment on whether the police are after Mr Tembo, Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said he was not aware of such a development.

Mr Tembo said being an opposition political leader in Zambia had now become dangerous because the ruling party was using the police and other security operatives to silence those with divergent views.

Mr Tembo also said calling for the resignation of President Hichilema was not an offence.

He wondered why the Inspector-General of police Lemmy Kajoba had decided not to summon him but instead opted to use intimidating tactics by sending police officers to move around his house.  Mr Tembo said Mr Hichilema should realize that the office he occupied required performing his duties to the expectation of Zambians.

He said President Hichilema was duty-bound to listen to Zambians and to find solutions to the challenges that citizens were facing instead of sending police officers to their gates.   Mr Tembo also alleged that he was reliably informed that officers from the Zambia Intelligence Security Services (ZSIS) commonly known as Office of the President (OP) were plotting to harm him and that if anything bad happened to him, the UPND government should be held responsible.

He said the UPND had made many mistakes after assuming office slightly over a year ago and that the earlier President Hichilema realized, the better for the country.

“As PeP, we have observed that from the time the UPND came into office, it has been disaster after disaster on how President Hakainde Hichilema has been handling the affairs of the country,” he said.

Mr Tembo said no amount of threats and intimidation would stop him from speaking for the Zambian people on issues of national importance.
