START sacking underperforming ministers or else you would be the one to be fired by Zambians in 2026, Economic Freedom Fighters (EEP) leader Kasonde Mwenda has advised President Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Mwenda has alleged that President Hichilema was failing to exercise his authority over his ministers some of whom had completely failed as the sectors they are heading have collapsed.
Mr Mwenda said it was surprising that Mr Hichilema had instead been protecting his underperforming ministers instead of rebuking them at the expense of good service to Zambians.
He said in an interview that President Hichilema was failing to figure out why he was getting it wrong in some sectors of the economy because of trusting the ministers who had proved to liabilities to his Cabinet.
He stated that the general citizenry had publicly raised a red flag on the performance of some ministries but that the President had paid a deaf ear to the complaints of the people he was governing to please the few he had selected to work with.
Mr Mwenda said the President was going to fail to develop the country if he did not pay attention to detail to see who among his ministers were not performing.
“Leadership begins with the President himself but he is failing to exercise authority, and is busy defending Ministers who are erring, then he is asking Zambians to suck him instead. The President is supposed to be rebuking the Ministers who are failing him. He is now going into his second year and we have not seen him make any disciplinary action on anyone, is saying people are not being careless,” he said.
Mr Mwenda said President Hichilema should realize that it was possible that he didn’t get it right with every minister he appointed and that was the why there was room for reshuffles.
He has also urged the President and the UPND leadership to work hard to deliver the change they promised Zambians because it would not come easy.
