THE new Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP) is usurping the courts’ powers by removing the immunity I was granted, former Konkola Copper Mines liquidator Milingo Lungu has said.
Mr Lungu said that he was confused by the stance taken by the DPP, Mr Gilbert Phiri to lift his immunity which was granted to him when the matter was still in the courts of law.
He said the DPP was equally bound and could not take such a step until the matter was concluded by the courts of law.
“It’s clear that the DPP is trying to usurp the powers of the courts because this matter is very active in the courts of law therefore his hands are equally tied,” he said.
Mr Lungu said his immunity was granted based on legal consideration therefore the proper channels needed to be followed when removing it.
He said he was still waiting for the verdict of the ConCourt and that he would respect whatever the courts would decide.
“All I can say is that I’m very confused with what is happening because the courts have guided and even gave a stay until everything is concluded, but the DPP has decided to neglect the guidance by taking this step,” Mr Lungu said.
Mr Lungu said there was too much inconsistency from the government which has been changing statements when they initially indicated that they had not given him any deal.
He said this was unfortunate and showed that the government was not being sincere as they were changing statements.
