ECONOMIC and Equity Party (EEP) President Chilufya Tayali was yesterday released from police after he was picked from his house by heavily armed police officers on Sunday.
And police spokesperson Rae Haamonga said that Mr Tayali had been arrested and formally charged for two offences which included seditious practices contrary to Section 57 sub section A as read with section 60 sub section B of the penal code Act Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Mr Haamonga also said that Mr Tayali was charged with the offence of harassment utilising means of electronic communication contrary to section 69 of the cyber security and Cyber-crimes Act no 2 of 2001.
Meanwhile his lawyer Mr Benjamin Mwelwa said his client had been released from dentention and that he was expected to appear in court on November 28.
Mr Mwelwa said it was good that his client had now been granted freedom after spending four days in custody.
“I can confirm that my client is out and is expected in court soon,” Mr Mwelwa said.
Meanwhile National Democratic Congress President Saboi Imboela was yesterday questioned for 30 minutes by the police who later slapped her with defamation of the president charge.
Ms Imboela in an interview after the interrogation said that they had called her for the same case as the last time but that they slapped her with defamation of the president.
“I was interrogated for almost 30 minutes but they could not detain me,” she said.
