Western records stalled projects from external contractors

Western Province Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta has observed that a number of stalled projects in the area are from external contractors as compare to local contractors

Mr Mbangweta noted that most external contractors have abandoned projects in the area while those done by local contractors have been completed.

He cited the construction of the district administration block and civic centre in Nkeyema among others that have been abandoned even after being paid partially.

He suggested that future projects should be given to local contractors for easy communication and verification whenever there is a problem.

Mr Mbangweta was speaking when he addressed civil servants and cooperating partners in Nkeyema District.

He said local contractors need to be empowered by giving them projects as means of allowing then to benefit from the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and enhance circulation of money in the districts.

The Provincial Minister also appreciated the role some cooperating partners have played towards the development of the country and commended World Vision Zambia for building a zonal hospital in Munkuye and Japan Tobacco International for making a road and building a bridge in Kamanga area.-ZANIS
