WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO PROMOTE PEACE-HH

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says his government will endeavour to promote peace and stability on the continent.
President Hichilema said peace and stability in other countries was important to Zambia and Africa, at large.
He said this yesterday after a bilateral meeting at Community House with Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin (MP) Presidential Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of the Republic of South Sudan.
“The peace and stability in that part of our continent is of paramount importance to us because the safety of our brothers and sisters will lead to increased peace and security in that country. As such we will endeavour to promote peace and stability on the continent,” President Hichilema wrote on his Facebook Page.
The President disclosed that he was briefed on the implementation of the peace process in South Sudan by Dr Benjamin.
He said Dr Benjamin on behalf of President Salva Kiir, hailed Zambia for the continued contribution to the UN peace operation in the country.
And speaking to Journalists shortly after meeting President Hichilema, Dr Benjamin revealed that he was in the country to update and inform President Hichilema on how the peace process was unfolding and the progress made so far.
He also disclosed that part of his visit to Zambia was to deliver a congratulatory message to Mr Hichilema for scoping last year’s August 12 general elections.
“I was sent here by my President Salva Kiir special envoy to come and meet President of Zambia and people of Zambia in order to update them and inform them about how the peace process is going on in the republic of South Sudan and also to bring him congratulations from my President and people of South Sudan to his excellence the President of Zambia. Also wishing him well and successful leadership of his people in Zambia,” he said.
