‘LOCKED UP’ LIVINGSTONE WORKERS SEEK PROTECTION

REPORTS have emerged that some workers at a named garage in Livingstone along Kafubu road are being locked up at night by their employer of Asian origin.

This came to light after a tip off from members of the public who sympathized with the workers.

One of the workers told Daily Nation who visited the site on the night of Friday November 26, 2021 that they are being locked up in the garage following previous incidents at the garage where workers allegedly used to steal from their employer at night.

Another worker said, their employer only comes to open the gate around 05: 00 hours adding that some government officials had visited the site to check on the situation but nothing has been done.

The workers have called for serious intervention as they fear that if an accident occurs, they might be trapped inside as the main gate is always locked.

And when reached for a comment, the owner of the garage only identified as Mr Shah said the locking up of the gate is part of the security guard rules.

He added that there is enough space for workers to seek safety in case of any eventualities.
