PF RUBBISHES ECL 2026 PRESIDENTIAL BID CLAIM

By ADRIAN MWANZA

THE PATRIOTIC Front has rubbished claims that the party was trying to field former head of state Edgar Lungu as the party’s candidate for the 2026 General Elections.

PF vice president, Given Lubinda, said the social media speculation was not factual and that there was no such plan.

“That is not a fact, it is just aimed at misleading the nation there is nothing of that sort,’’ he said.

The PF Central Committee will today hold a meeting to receive a postmortem report of the August 2021 election and consider proposals on the holding of a general conference.

Mr Lubinda said that he did not believe in rumor mongering and that those propagating this needed to stop.

Some social media reports have indicated that some individuals in the party were pushing for the return of Mr Lungu in the 2026 General Elections.

According to social media the plot apparently was designed to put a new president, who would however hold the position on a temporal basis until 2024.

The report said Brian Mundubile the Mporokoso MP and Leader of the Opposition was to be elected as president till 2024.
