NO SHOW ACCUSED PERSON IRKS COURT

No show accused person irks court

By Mulenga Musonda

The Choma Magistrates Court has expressed concern at the continuous absence of a 35 years old man accused of torching two houses from showing up at court.

Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa noted with concern after noticing that Gift Mukonka has been absent for two consecutive sittings with no reasons advanced before court.
In this matter Mukonka of Kasonde village in Pemba district is charged with one count of Arson contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Allegations are that Mukonka on December 18, 2020 in Choma district willfully and unlawfully set fire on two dwelling houses belonging to Mildred Chiyoba.
When the matter came up for trial before Court, Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa after being told that the accused person was not before court seemed unpleased as that was the second time in a row that the Mukonka was staying away from the sittings without any reasons.
Magistrate Munukayumbwa reluctantly adjourned the matter to June 24, 2021 for trial and also extended the accused person’s police bond in absentia.
