VILLAGER CONVICTED FOR DEFILING STEP-DAUGHTER, 13

By STEPHEN MWEWA

A Kasama Magistrate’s Court has committed a 48-year-old brick-layer to the High Court for sentencing after convicting him of defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

In this matter, Festus Chambanenge of Kungu village in Kasama was charged with defilement as he had defiled the 13-year-old girl on several occasions in February, this year.

Chambanenge infected her with multiple diseases and Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba convicted him and committed the matter for sentencing to the High Court.

The court heard that the mother of the girl went for a visit to Mporokoso for some days and left her daughter with her husband so that she could be doing house works.

In court, the girl testified that Chambenenge stated having sex with her and that she reported the matter to the neighbours who later reported the matter to police.

The girl started having difficulties when walking after being infected with sexually transmitted diseases.

When the matter came up for judgement, the magistrate said he was satisfied that the state proved its case beyond all reasonable doubts  and convicted him to the high court for sentencing.
