FISHERMAN SHOT AND WOUNDED

A Middle aged Zambian man was shot and injured by Zimbabwean Security Officers for illegally fishing from the Zimbabwean side on Lake Kariba.

According to Zambia Police sources, Gift Kamfwa aged 24 of Simabula village in Sinazongwe District was shot on the left hand wrist while illegally fishing on the Zimbabwean side with his brother.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday Morning around 02:00 hours and the victim is currently nursing serious wounds on his hand in Maamba General Hospital.

And Sinazongwe District Commissioner Sheena Muleya has expressed worry over the incident and warned Zambians to desist from illegal fishing and crossing to the Zimbabwean side of Lake Kariba.She has also called the department of fisheries to intensify their patrols on the lake to ensure there is no illegal fishing and peoples’ lives are secured by working closely with the Zambia Police, Council and other stakeholders- ZANIS
