ZANACO, GIZ strike deal to aid 10, 000 farmers

ZANACO has partnered with GIZ to offer tailored credit and banking solutions to 10, 000 macro medium scale farmers and 200 rural enterprises.

And Zanaco Chief Executive Officer Mukwandi Chibesakunda said the bank is committed to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the growth of the agriculture sector.

Ms Chibesakunda said the bank recognises the critical role the agriculture sector plays in the country’s economy therefore its efforts in ensuring access to finance for various players in the agriculture value chain.

”Food security is important for any nation.  The farmers that we will support through this partnership contribute to the sustenance of food security in our country and we are confident that this partnership will enhance their contribution,” she said.

And Ms Chibesakunda said the partnership with the government will not just end at the provision of the tailored financial solutions but will extend to offering the much needed financial literacy training and capacity building to the farmers.

And GIZ Head of Development Corporation Jonathan Gatzer said they recognise the importance of access to finance in the agriculture value chain. Mr Gatzer said with the current difficult economic situation, this is posing a threat on both the agriculture and financial sectors
