50 Chilubi cooperatives empowered

THE Edgar Chagwa Lungu Multipurpose Empowerment Cooperative has empowered 50 cooperatives in Chilubi District of Northern Province with various business merchandise and equipment.

The items include a motorized tri-cycle, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment, incubators, broiler chickens, maize packs, storage sheds, second hand clothes, sewing machines among other goods.

The cooperative has also empowered a youth artist group in the district with over K200,000.

ECL Multipurpose Empowerment Cooperative Coordinator, Muya Zulu, handed over the items in Chilubi.

Mr Zulu said empowerment of cooperatives was meant to help vulnerable families and alleviate household poverty.

Meanwhile, Chief Matipa hailed President Lungu for the empowerment programme.

And receiving the items, Chilubi District Commissioner, Gilbert Mwila, thanked the Head of State for the gesture saying the goods will be distributed to various groups in all the three parts of Chilubi.

Mr. Mwila said this in a speech read for him by Chilubi District Administrative Officer Hammarskjoeld Chanda.
