A-23-YEAR-OLD man of Chipata’s Referendum Township identified as John Chansa has committed suicide by hanging himself in his friend’s house using a belt.
Eastern Province deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Achiume has confirmed the incident which happened on Sunday, between 10:00 and 11:00 hours.
Mr Achiume said Mr Chansa hanged himself in the house of his friend Daniel Chulu aged 25 in unclear circumstances.
He explained that Mr Chansa, who went to visit his friend and remained alone in the house for about an hour was found gasping for breath by Mr Chulu when he returned from the market.
“Upon returning from the market, his friend found him gasping for his life and with the help of neighbours, he removed from the rope after cutting it and he was later taken to Chipata District Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Mr Achiume said.
Mr Achiume said the police were not suspecting any foul play.
