CHARGE d’Affaires at the Zambian Mission in Gaborone Goodwell Lungu has advised Zambians intending to travel to Botswana that restrictions at the Kazungula border will be lifted from December 1, 2020.

Mr. Lungu said the development follows the approval by President Mokgweetsi Masisi that international travel would be allowed in a phased approach.
This is contained in a statement by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations in Gaborone, Botswana Kasabo Kalusa.
Mr Lungu said admission into the country would need travellers to produce a valid Covid-19 test result done within 72 hours before departure.
Mr Lungu, who is acting Head of Mission, said the development would open a major commercial transit route and destination in Southern Africa between Zambia and Botswana.
He also explained that opening the Kazungula border signals plans by Zambia and Botswana to operationalise the Kazungula bridge in the first quarter of 2021.
“We have been advised by the government of Botswana that the border between our two countries via Kazungula border will be open for movements on December 1, 2020. International flights into Botswana will resume on November 9, 2020.
All travellers shall need to present a valid 72 hours Covid-19 test result and will be required to be screened for any possible symptoms through temperature checks” Mr. Lungu said.
Mr. Lungu encouraged Zambians to adhere to the health provisions and protocols being implemented by the host country.
He also advised visiting Zambians to inform the Zambian Mission in Gaborone of their visits in the country to promote consular interactions.
