SANGALALA market in Chilanga district which will accommodate about 40 marketeers has been commissioned by Chilanga Council chairperson Annie Brown.

The project started on 17 January 2020 fully funded by Chilanga Town Council using the 20% capital finds under the Local Government Equalization Fund and has been built at a total cost of K201,081.62.
“This market being commissioned today will provide a favourable trading place for the marketeers who are currently selling merchandise in open places. With this market, street vending will be addressed,” Ms Brown said.
“I would like to encourage marketers of the continued government support towards the improvement of their standard of living particularly women,” said Ms Brown.

The District commissioner for Chilanga Richard Ndazye called on the marketers not to vandalize the building.
“My call to you the people around this facility more especially the marketers please keep this facility well, don’t vandalize it, then to those selling in the streets please come to the market here it has been built for you to use unlike you being found in the streets, let’s also maintain hygiene remember the president wants the country to be health and green,” said Mr Ndazye.
Elizabeth Phiri one of marketeers thanked the government through Chilanga Council for giving them a shelter that will help them undertake their business, especially as the rain season is around the corner.
Others present at the event was the council secretary Mrs. Mumbo Chocho and area councillor for Chilanga ward Misheck Mweemba.
