NOEL IYOMBWA writes
HE is qualified legal personal who decided to take up service as a lawmaker under MalamboConstituency. This week we feature the youthful Makebi Zulu, who also happens to be Eastern Province minister.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
My names are Makebi Zulu, I was born on the 25th of December 1981 and did my Primary School Education at Lusaka Boys from 1989 to 1995, then I proceeded to Munali High School for my Secondary School Education.
In 2001, I made it to the University of Zambia where I pursued a degree in Law and from January to February of 2004 he interned at the Legal Resources Foundation in Livingstone.
Upon my Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Law at the University of Zambia, I then worked at the Ministry of Justice from April 2006 to December 2007.
In 2007, I graduated from the prestigious Zambia institute of Legal Education (ZIALE).
I then worked for the Legal Aid board as Legal Aid Counsel from Jan 2008 to December 2009.
WHEN DID YOU JOIN POLITICS
In 2013 I opened my private law firm, Makebi Zulu Advocates, in the same year I decided to join politics and vied for the Malambo parliamentary seat in the Eastern Province during the August 2016 General elections I emerged victorious as MalamboContuency Law Maker.
The Republican President of Zambia President Edgar Chagwa Lungu later appointed me to the position of Provincial Minister for Eastern Province.
SOME ACHIEVEMENT IN YOUR CONSTITUENCY
Ever since I was ushered into office I have delivered on the promises.
Right now farmers have received fertilizer for the 2020/2021 farming season, except for Nyimbadistrict because they are still waiting for the agro dealers to supply.
Recently the Zambia Army Deputy Commander Major General Dennis Alibuzwi paid a courtesy call and I encouraged them to set up a fish hatchery as the province is trying to move into aquaculture, the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission.
Eastern province being an agriculture-based area, it will be important if the defence force can have a better contribution in the agriculture sector, though aquaculture.
If the Zambia army can set up a hatchery, it will be easy for fish farmers to buy fingerings within the province.
We disbursed K48,000 to over 28 youth and women clubs as start-up capital for their businesses.
We also handed over egg-incubators from the Presidential Empowerment initiative fund to the women and youth clubs. We are optimistic that this will improve the livelihoods of women and youths in Malambo.
Katete-Msoro road was indeed in a bad state but today the road has been worked and people are smiling.
A number of schools have been built and rehabilitated one example is pendwe Primary School in Msoro Chiefdom thanks President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the PF government for decent education facilities.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE POLITICAL ASPIRATIONS?
For now I am only concentrating on delivering development in my constituency.
