Handball gets Covid-19 guide

MUKWIMA CHILALA writes

THE International Handball Federation (IHF) has given the Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) a guideline on how to go about with its competitions that were slated for this year under the new Post Covid-19 normal.

And HAZ are expected to hold two under 17 and under 20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against regional and continental teams slated for between July and December 2020.

HAZ president Victor Bwalya Banda says that the IHF had scheduled the Africa cup tournament for under 20 and under 17 boys in December hence qualifiers needed to take place before then.

Banda said that the global body was yet to set the dates for the qualifying games but that they would have to take place before between now and December as the competition was set for the end of the year.

He said that the onus was now on the regional bodies to set the fixtures so as to play each other and then later compete at continental level.

And Banda said that his Association was getting ready for a return of the Hand ball league in Zambia which was slated for the first week of August.

He said that as such the IHF had sent them regulations on how to conduct local competitions under the new COVID-19 era which teams need to abide by.

Banda said that the Handball Federation will on July 24 convene an orientation seminar for all the teams in the league that will comprise of team managers, doctors, coaches and matrons from each club.
