Tukuta arrest draws mixed reactions

NOEL IYOMBWA writes

THE arrest of photographer Chellar Tukuta has received mixed reactions with some condemning law enforcers while others commending them.

Chawama ward two councilor Leonard Sikombe has commended law enforcers for the arresting Mr. Tukuta.

In an interview Mr. Sikombe said that no one is fixing Mr. Tukuta but that he is fixing himself.

He said that as much as everyone has the right to speak, there is need to be mindful for what one speaks.

The civic leader said that one should not exercise their freedom of expression by injuring others.

“As much as we have the right to speak there should be limit and whatever we speak should not injure others, as much the people he mentioned are politicians, they are also parents, uncles and family members.

“Even when we drive vehicles there should be speed limit,” he said.

He said that he is happy that he has been arrested and that the law should take its course.

Meanwhile, police have formally charged Mr. Tukuta with four counts of Libel contrary to section 191 and 192 of the penal code.

Acting police spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the arrest of Mr. Tukuta.

Mr. Mwale said that the suspect is police custody and will appear in court soon.
