Covid-19: WHO suspends Malaria drug trial again

The World Health Organization (WHO) has for the second time stopped the use of an anti-malarial drug, hydroxychloroquine, on severely ill Covid-19 patients.

The WHO said that data from a French trial and a UK trial both showed that using hydroxychloroquine does not reduce the amount of deaths among hospitalised Covid-19 patients.

An international trial, known as the Solidarity Trial, will also stop.

Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control had continued the use of the drug despite the first suspension by WHO.
