A POLICE officer has told the magistrates court how a man assaulted another police officer in the Magistrates court.

Particulars of the offence before magistrate Martha Miti was that Shadreck Muyooma assaulted Kasongo Kahangu, 28, a police officer of Nampundwe on January 2.

Muyooma is alleged to have broken Kahangu’s right leg after he kicked him.

Witness Victor Sialyainde, 46, a police officer of Shibuyunji said he was on duty with other police officers at a layby check point in Shibuyunji.

He said around 01:00 hours, there was a lot of noise coming from the nearby bars.

He said Mr. Kahangu and another officer went to close up the drinking places.

He said whilst trying to maintain law and order Muyooma started insulting the police officers.

He said as they tried to apprehend Muyooma in his drunken state, he kicked Kahangu on his right leg and it became fractured.

He said he arrested Muyooma and charged him with the offence of assault.

The court found Muyooma with a case to answer and put him on his defence.

Muyooma said the witness he wanted to call was involved in a road accident and as such will not call any witness.

The matter comes up on June 4 for defence.
