DEBS officer, sons drown at a picnic

A 47-YEAR-OLD man working as District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) officer for Mulobezi District and his sons aged between 13 and 16 years drowned after a boat they were paddling capsized.

Mulobezi District Council public relations officer Elvis Muleya identified a DEBS officer as Jimmy Walubita Simaundu.

In a statement, Muleya said the late Mr Simaundu had gone for a picnic at Kanyimba Dam with his family when a boat that he was paddling together with his two sons capsized.

Mr Muleya identified the other victims as Lishoma aged 16 years and Mubita, 13.

“A DEBS officer in Mulobezi district yesterday drowned together with his two sons at Kanyimba Dam.

“Mr Jimmy Walubita Simaundu, 47, had gone for a picnic at Kanyimba Dam with his family when a boat that he was paddling together with his two sons capsized. The two sons are Lishoma Simaundu 16, and Mubita Simaundu 13,” Mr Muleya said.

He said the bodies of all the three victims were retrieved by members of the public.
