The third edition of the SUN FM Kwacha Music Awards set to take place on 28th September promises to be bigger and better following the revelation of performers and music acts for this year.

The awards whose process of voting for nominees closes today have been set to reward musicians that have shown excellence in the course of their artistic duty.

For over a month now, fans and followers have been voting for their artistes in the over 30 categories and as this closes today, the organising committee led by Sun FM C.E.O Davies Kabuswe is certain to host a memorable event that will be beamed live on national television.

Speaking in an interview with Pan African Radio recently,  Kabuswe emphasized that the KMAs are unique as they always recognise artistes from the country’s various provinces to make them have a national character.

Kabuswe confirmed that all is set for the Awards to be at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. To this regard, all participants have been provided with the necessities which includes accommodation and food.  All nominees are therefore notified to be in Lusaka on 27th September, 2019 in readiness for the awards the following day.

About 26 local radio stations as well as Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation – ZNBC have all partnered with Sun FM to ensure the awards are delivered in unity.

A total of 201 nominees were revealed with an enhanced 21 categories as compared to the 2018 awards which only attracted 153 nominees. This in itself shows growth and acceptance, organisers say.

Kabuswe has since encouraged Zambian artistes and the nation at large to support the awards.

Meanwhile, the awards this year like other years will be centred on celebrating Zambian music. For this reason, a blend of current and old school musicians has been put forth to entertain attendees.

Hip-hop music which seems to be taking centre stage in Zambia will be part of the menu as the genre’s heavyweights like Chef 187, Slapdee, King Illest, Cleo Ice Queen and Jay Rox will be there to entertain guests. Gospel music will also be fused in as Pompi, Mag44 and Abel Chungu are expected there too.

Yo Maps will obviously be a wonder to watch as he is one of the most current artistes making a debut appearance at the show. He is also the awards’ most nominated this year.

The old school giants Mainza, Sister D and K’Millian are also listed.

Other artistes to perform include Roberto, Chester, Afunika and another new entrant Niza son to late legendary singer Ackim Simukonda.
