The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of agriculture between Egypt and Zambia will increase Cairo’s investments and support in Zambia’s farming sector and beyond, says Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia Amhed Mustafa has said.

Mr Mustafa to that effect said more Egyptian experts in agriculture will be coming to Zambia and share their knowledge and expertise in the field with much emphasis on the new farming methods and the use of technology in agriculture.

In statement made available to the Sun newspaper yesterday , Mr Mustafa said the agreement was a clear manifestation of the good bilateral ties between the two countries.

He commended President Edgar Lungu and the entire Zambian government for meeting the Egyptian Minister of agriculture, Ezzeddin Abu Steit and his entourage.

Mr Mustafa said that the bilateral cooperation would see more Egyptian companies investing in Zambia on a large scale as the MoU has opened doors for more cooperation.

He said that the advantage of increased cooperation brought vast experience and investment expansion ideas that benefitted both countries, and further added that this could lead to investment in machinery and consultation.

Meanwhile, Mr Mustafa said following the signing of the MoU, Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Kampamba Chewe and her Zambian delegation is currently in Egypt on a familiarization visit to establish and enhance cooperation in the aquaculture sector.

He said the visit by the Zambian Minister would result into transfer of Egyptian know-how to Zambia and enhance the aquaculture of Zambia.
