THE Zimbabwe national women’s soccer team failed to pitch show up for their Japan 2020 Olympics match against Zambia that was scheduled for the National Sports Stadium on Sunday. Zambia flew into Harare on Friday with a comfortable lead of 5-0 lead inflicted on their opponents.

The match was called off after the hosts pulled out of the game.

But according to sources in Zimbabwe, the national women’s side is owed some money from other games and therefore decided to boycott the match.

The sources said the Zimbabwean Football Association owed the women’s soccer team money from past assignments.

And as a result respective clubs pulled their players from the national team.

FAZ communications manager Mwazi Chanda said from Harare that their opponents had not shown up at the stadium while her team pitched up ready for the game.

By press time the Zambia team were still waiting for official communication from their hosts and the match commissioner.
