A concerned resident of Chadiza District, in Eastern Province, Lephan Phiri, has appealed to Government to consider repairing the roads in the area as they are in a deplorable state and posed a danger to human lives.
Mr Phiri complained that the main Chadiza road was gazetted and earmarked for rehabilitation some time back but was yet to be worked on while it continued to deteriorate.
He said the main road was in such a deplorable state that motorists were forced to use alternative but equally dilapidated roads to get to their destinations.
“As the people of Chadiza, we are appealing to Government to consider working on the main road which is in a very deplorable state,” he said.
“The road was gazetted for rehabilitation a long time ago but it is yet to be worked on, motorists are abandoning it for fear of damaging their vehicles,” he said.
Mr Phiri complained that the road had a lot of potholes and that there was need to grade it if there was no money to undertake serious works on it.
He said instead of government giving tenders to people to slash the road reserves, it should consider using the money to rehabilitate the roads in the area.
