FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) says its investment in youth and women football was beginning to manifest as evidenced by the performance of the teams.

FAZ general secretary, Adrian Kashala, told the Sun sport his association would endeavor to ensure the women soccer team and the Under 23 boys’ team, qualified to the Olympics to be held in Japan next year.

Kashala said he was happy with the performance of the women soccer team who beat Zimbabwe in their first leg Olympic qualifier, played at Nkoloma Stadium on Wednesday.

He said what was needed was for the team to finish off the job when the two sides meet in the second leg, slated for Harare next Sunday.

“We are happy with the performance of our women national team in the first leg of the Olympic Games qualifier. We urge them to finish off the job on Sunday and ensure qualification to the next round,” Kashala said.

“Our investment in our women and youth structures is beginning to manifest itself through the performance of our various teams. Our U17 Women are in camp preparing for the 2019 Inaugural Women Championship in Mauritius next month,” he said.

“FAZ will endeavor to do everything possible to ensure that the team qualifies to the Olympics,” said Kashala.

Kashala has since congratulated the Senior Women National Team for their 5-0 first leg victory over Zimbabwe in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier on Wednesday at Nkoloma Stadium.

The FAZ chief wished the team the best of luck in the return leg in Harare on Sunday.

Zambia plays Zimbabwe on Sunday in the second leg in Harare.

Winners of both games, would play either Botswana or South Africa in the next round.
