TRADITIONAL LEADER APPEALS INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

SUB-CHIEF Zombe of Mbala District has appealed to government to put in place infrastructure that will facilitate trade between Northern Province and Tanzania’s Rukwa region.

The traditional leader said the Zombe-Kasesha border had the potential to help increase Zambia’s revenue collection hence the need to provide the necessary infrastructure.

He said the poor road network leading to Kasesha has negatively affected business and trade between Zambians and Tanzanians.

Chief Zombe noted that the road is of great economic importance which will benefit both government and its citizenry.

ZANIS reports that the traditional leader said this when Northern Province Minister Chungu Bwalya paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.

He noted that improving the road network and infrastructure at the Zombe-Kasesha border point will also help to decongest the Makonde border in Muchinga Province.

And Chief Zombe has hailed government for making strides in implementing infrastructure development projects in his chiefdom.

Meanwhile, Mr Bwalya revealed that government has prioritized upgrading of key roads such as the Mbala –Zombe- Kasesha road.

He said the provincial administration wants to ensure that the much talked about poor road network in the region is addressed.

The provincial minister further said there is need to also upgrade the existing infrastructure at the border post by modernizing it.

Mr Bwalya, who is also Lupososhi Member of Parliament, has since assured chief Zombe that his office will continue to work with the traditional leadership in fostering development.
