A 25-YEAR-OLD woman has told a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband does not want her to do business or go to school yet she is young she has a future.

Gift Tembo of Zani Muone area was testifying in a case in which her husband, Jonas Mwelwa, 28, sued her for reconciliation after separating for two weeks.

The two got married in 2011 and have two children.

Mwelwa told Senior Court Magistrates Pauline Newa and Harriet Mulenga at Matero Local Court that problems started last year when he went to work in Kaputa but later communication went down.

He explained that he would phone Tembo at 20.00 hours but she was always not home and that when he travelled back to Lusaka he discovered she had started drinking beer.

Mwelwa said that Tembo even started wearing leggings and complained that he was all intent to make her old.

When he came to Lusaka for the second time he discovered that Tembo was one month pregnant but unfortunately she had a miscarriage, adding that he was not sure who had put her in the family way.

“I was surprised Tembo wanted charms for protection after miscarriage and she said I accused her of having committed adultery. Instead of resolving the matter she went to  the Copperbelt and when she came back she said she wanted to be independent,” said Mwelwa.

In defence, Tembo said that problems started when Mwelwa began going to Kaputa because he acquired a girlfriend and that it was the same girlfriend who phoned her to reveal the relationship.

Tembo said that Mwelwa beat her after accusing her of having a boyfriend and told her to leave the matrimonial home.

“I left for Copperbelt. We later reconciled on our own. Mwelwa doesn’t want me to do business or go to school; I am still young I have a future. He says I am a prostitute,” said Tembo.

Asked by the court if she could reconcile with Mwelwa, Tembo said that she did not want to do so because she had gone through a lot of hardships.

The court ruled a failed reconciliation because Tembo refused to do so.
