Noise pollution angers Siavonga residents

OLIVER SAMBOKO writes

NOISE pollution from a local night club has offended Siavonga residents who have appealed to the local authority to quickly move in and bring about sanity.

A concerned resident, Ladicious Hanziba  who spoke on behalf of others said the local authority should urgently address the issue considering that the night club is situated near ZESCO compound where engineers lived.

Mr Hanziba said Residents wanted Siavonga district council to act on the noise pollution caused by loud music from a local night club.

“People can’t sleep at night because of the noise coming from this night club. Some of these people are managing machines at our power station and they need to concentrate at work,

“Others are health personnel and equally need enough and sound sleep for them to do their work effectively,” complained Mr. Hanziba.

He said the local authority should ensure that owners of the club installed sound proof at their premises to stop noise from disturbing the residents residing near the premises and the surrounding areas.

Mr. Hanziba said that night clubs or any other drinking places were required by law to make their premises sound proof and wondered why the local authority was not acting on those disregarding regulations.

“It’s sad that these clubs are being allowed to play loud music as late as 05:00hrs in the morning and the poor people around this place are subjected to this situation without anyone coming to help them,” he said

Another resident, Rodgers Mweene also appealed to the local authority to regulate noise from churches operating near residential areas.

He said while it was appreciated that Zambia was a Christian nation, there should be order in the manner worship was being conducted by churches especially those that operate within residential areas.
