Nyimba Investments procures fertilizer for Lusaka, Chilanga

SUN BUSINESS REPORTER writes

THE delivery of fertilizer to Chilanga district by Nyimba Investments has cheered area Member of Parliament Maria Langa.

Ms. Langa said she was happy that the company had procured the required consignment for fertilizer for her area and Lusaka Province which should contribute to the two areas having a better crop yield in the next farming season.

The parliamentarian said this when she visited Nyimba Investment storage sing to supply fertilizers for the 2019/ 2020 farming season.

Nyimba has been contracted to supply the commodity for Lusaka and Chilanga districts under the direct input supply programme.

The company has since restocked the entire 10,000 metric tonnes of the commodity in their storage warehouses.

Company head of sales and marketing Willing Mulendema used to the occasion to update the parliamentarian on the progress that Nyimba had made to procure fertilizers for the farming season.

“I am happy to have come to Nyimba and see for myself what you are doing. What you have done is really good and now it’s up our farmers to start accessing the fertilizer in good time and start the preparations early,” she said.

Ms. Langa said that the efforts by Nyimba Investments to restock in good time were in line with the government’s policy of encouraging more citizens to venture into agriculture.

She said that President Lungu was serious about diversifying the economy from mining to agriculture and it was, therefore, important for commodity companies to distribute their products in good time.

“Our government of President Lungu is prepared for the coming season and he is interested to see a bumper harvest and with such efforts, I think we can get somewhere,” she said.

And Lusaka Province Provincial Agriculture Coordinator (PACO), Pascal Chipasha urged the farmers to venture into conservation farming owing to the effects of the persistent droughts that some parts of Zambia had been experiencing.

He said that to have a better crop yield, farmers in Lusaka and Chilanga should move to conservation farming and not conventional.

Mr. Chipasha also said that he was happy that Nyimba Investment has restocked the entire quantity for the province and therefore asked the farmers to quickly start accessing the commodity.

And Mr. Mulendema said that his company was happy that it has managed to procure the 10,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer for Lusaka and Chilanga for the direct input supply programme.

“We also want to inform the nation that we have positioned over 80 percent of our contracted quantities in Lusaka, North Western and Copperbelt regions in readiness for  September 1 distribution as indicated by the government,

“ We also want to assure the Zambian farmers that Nyimba will again deliver all fertilizer inputs on time this year,” said Mr. Mulendema.
