National Division One Kafue Celtic has gone on a hunt for new players countrywide as many teams regroup to prepare for the upcoming newly restructured soccer season next month.
Having made it to the newly formed national division one the last day of the league, Celtic have embarked on a countrywide drive to look for new players.
The technical bench of the ‘crocs’ as the team is popularly known was at the weekend in Chipata scouting for young talent.
Celtic has identified 22 under-13 players from across Zambia at the just ended schools ball games in Chipata.
Celtic proprietor Lee Kawanu told the Sun sport that that the 22 players would be invited for a one-week training camp during next school holidays in August.
“It’s been a very successful outing for our scouting team in Eastern Province where a total of 22 Under-13 players were identified as potential “Baby Crocs” to join the team next year,
“Our next task is to convince the parents of the identified athletes to release them into our custody so that we can begin to develop them for Europe while catering to all their nutritional, psychological and most importantly educational needs,” Kawanu said.
The Celtic proprietor said that after assessing and identifying those that had the specific player profile they were looking for, about 5 or 6 of the 22 identified athletes would be finally selected.
Celtic has been known for mentoring of young players for the European market.
Among some of the players to have passed through Celtic are national team duo Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu now on the books of Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian league.
Others are ZESCO legend Jackson Mwanza and 2012 winning midfielder Chisamba Lungu.
Celtic will next season compete in the newly structured national division one league having finished third in division one zone two in the just ended transitional league.
