THE construction of houses in road reserves by some Chirundu residents has angered the local leadership which was threatened to demolish the structures.

Chirundu district council secretary John Mwanza said it was wrong that some residents should construct houses in the road reserves at the new government complex township.

Mr. Mwanza sternly warned the owners of the structures and foundations that the council would demolished them to pave way for construction of new township roads in the area.

He said the reserves have been beaconed and wondered why some people opted to ignore them.

Mr. Mwanza said some affected residents had revealed that a headman Kadango was the one who allowed them to build in the reserves.

But when some committee members of headman Kadango were consulted over the matter they denied allowing some individuals to build in road reserves and completely distanced themselves from the issue.

However, Mr Mwanza said the council would not relent because construction of new roads was part of development for the district.

He said the works had to go on and could not be delayed or stopped because of some selfish people.

Mr. Mwanza said he would engage the district commissioner Mr. Alfred Hamunjo, council chairperson Mr. Robison Sianduba, area councilor for Chirundu central Chrispin Malesu and the people so that they could help identify which houses would be demolish while some foundations had already been buried.
