Promiscuous businessman loses marriage

RABECCA BANDA writes

A Lusaka man has been divorced in the Chilenje Local Court for being crooked and promiscuous.

Kennedy Njovu, 32, a businessman of Kabanana was sued by his wife Margret Wanga,33, a stock controller of Nyumba Yanga.

Wanga told senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe the two got got married in 2014 and have one child together.

She said two months in marriage her husband forged her signature for a business transaction which caused her to give up her car.

“I was not aware until when I was called to the police station. They told me that if I don’t give up my car to repay the debt, they will arrest my husband,

“I forgave him and gave up my car .Two months later, my husband called my relatives telling them that he wants our marriage to end,” she said.

She discovered that he had a girlfriend who even called saying he  was about to chase her so that she could move in with him. “A month later he stopped sleeping in the house. He said he wanted me to leave. He used to beat me the time I was pregnant.

“Later he got a job in Mansa and there he engaged another woman. He was staying with her. The woman called me to inform that they were together with my husband,” she said.

Wanga said her husband was fired from his job because of his crooked behavior  but when he came back to Lusaka she forgave him.  “In 2016, I caught him naked in a house with another woman but I forgave him.

He was later sentenced 7 years imprisonment because of the debts,” she said.

“I wanted to divorce while he was in jail but I thought to wait until he was out. He was released after serving 2 years 8 months during the presidential pardon in May last month,” she said.

In defence Njovu said disputes started from the beginning of their marriage as his wife would always find ways to frustrate him.

“I admit I beat her but it wasn’t always. I was under a lot of stress and pressure when I lost my job,” he said.

The court granted divorce without compensation and custody of the child was awarded to Wanga because Njovu was recently released from prison.

It however ordered Njovu to maintain his child with K200 per month.
