ZRA angers Chirundu border truck drivers- over delays in clearing them to enter Zimbabwe

TRUCK drivers crossing into Zimbabwe at Chirundu border have complained of delays in clearing them by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) which has resulted in long queue of trucks.

Mr Tapiwa Rukaro a Zimbabwean driver said he did not understand why ZRA delayed in processing papers  which had resulted in their Zimbabwean counterparts deny them entry because of inadequate space in the customs yard.

Another driver Tafadzwa Mokoena said the slow documentation process by ZRA was inconveniencing them.

He said that ZRA must improve on its clearance process by emulate their Zimbabwean authorities who normally clear long queues of truck within a day.

And Chirundu district commissioner Mr. Alfred Hamunjo said after he had confirmed the prevailing situation t the border with ZRA assistant commissioner Ms Chama Chikumbi.

Mr. Hamunjo said Ms Chikumbi had however assured him that her officers would tirelessly work so that the trucks could be quickly cleared.

Mr. Hamunjo expressed optimism that the trucks would be cleared soon so that the bridge was not weakened by the heavy trucks carrying different amounts of cargo.
