THE newly introduced national division one league will be a difficult undertaking because of a number of factors such as distances and financial constraints the teams in the lower divisions re currently facing.
These fears were brought out yesterday by former FAZ executive committee member Blackwell Siwale who strongly felt that many teams in the lower division would be unable to fulfill their fixtures
Siwale told the Sun Sport in an interview that it would be difficult for many teams to fulfill fixtures owing to the long distances as well as the difficult to meet their obligations with the zonal league in place.
“It is me fear that we shall have so many games not played owing to distances and financial aspects of teams in the lower league. If I was still office I wouldn’t dismantle the zonal arrangement which we are in now,
“The zonal arrangements are easier to administer and like I said earlier we still have un-played games because teams in division one are still struggling to raise funds,” said Siwale
Siwale, who is former Nchanga Rangers president wondered how teams would manage to travel from one end of Zambia to another when already many teams were having difficulties in covering shorter distances in the zonal league.
He said it would be interesting to see how teams like Real Nakonde would fulfill fixtures with teams in Livingstone when the team already had difficulties doing so in Lusaka.
Siwale further raised concerns over the planned sponsorship for the lower division league saying that it would not be easy to do so.
The newly introduced National Division One league comes into effect this August when the new season begins and will see FAZ dismantle the zonal division one leagues into a national league.
