THE Chilenje Local Court has reconciled a Lusaka woman with her irresponsible husband.
Jennipher Chulu, 25, of Bauleni Township had taken Felix Chabala, also 25, to court for his failure to perform his duties as the breadwinner.
The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe.
Chulu told the court that they got married in 2017 and have one child.
She said they lived in peace until 2018 when Chabala changed his behaviour.
“I was eight months pregnant and went to the village to deliver the baby,” Chulu said.
She testified that when she returned home the same year she did not find her clothes in the house.
“My husband could not explain where he had taken my clothes. We continued having disputes until one day when I was serving a meal a woman called him asking him for money for food and rentals,” Chulu said.
When she asked him about the woman Chanda said it was his mother.
Chulu said Chabala stopped providing for her and the child.
“He has not given me even a K1. He leaves the house without leaving anything,” she said.
Chulu said she took Chabala to the Victim Support Unit of the Zambia Police Service and he was arrested.
His mother said the marriage was over because Chulu had had her son detained.
Chabala chased his wife, who stayed with her relatives for two weeks, but he later apologised and took her back home.
“He beats me. He has not changed. I still love my husband and I want the court to help me. If he can repent I can take him back,” Chulu said.
Chabala said disputes started when a woman with whom he had a child earlier called him asking for money.
“I told my wife that it was my mother who had called because I didn’t want confusion,” he said.
“My wife knew that I had a child before I married her. Fights started and she even broke my phone,” Chabala said.
He said he got K500 as a salary but his wife thought he had a lot of money which he gave to his mother.
“I still love my wife and don’t want to divorce,” Chabala said.
The court reconciled the couple.
