MP Sichalwe receives ‘no confidence’ vote

SOME residents of Misisi Township of Chawama Constituency in Lusaka have passed a vote of no confidence in their member of Parliament Lawrence Sichalwe.

The residents accused the MP of failing to develop the area as expected despite promising them development during elections.

One of the residents, Dalitso Lungu, said in an interview with the Sun that the area had a poor drainage system that had been causing floods especially in the rainy seasons.

“Our MP promised us a lot of things like a proper drainage system, but we have not seen anything of that sort. We appreciate the construction of roads but the drainage system cannot stand the test of time,” Mr Lungu said.

He said that such issues posed a health risk to the residents in the area, and appealed Mr Sichalwe to remember the area.

“We advised our MP when he once visited us on the need to put up a good, sustainable drainage system but he did not listen to us.

“Look at the drainage system they constructed. They are not helping in any way,” Mr Lungu said.

He said residents were not dull to see what was happening, and that they would show the MP the door should he stand in 2021 if he did not attend to their concerns.

Another resident, Abigail Nalwamba, said she did not see the point of voting on grounds that most leaders went under the water after being elected into office.

Ms Nalwamba said Nkoloma ward one councillor Tasila Lungu was performing better as she had tried to change some things in the area such as connecting water among others.

Mr Sichalwe could not be immediately reached for a comment.
