FAZ has recorded an overwhelming turn-out for the ‘D’ coaching Licence training that started at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) on Friday morning and ends today.

According to FAZ deputy general secretary Joseph Chimpampwe 154 candidates had turned  for the programme that would also  be conducted across Zambia in two phases.

The coaching also attracted  former national team players William Njobvu, Bronson Chama, Francis Kombe, Newa Mwewa and Allan Mukuka.

Chimpampwe said the training was part of the process of pushing Zambia back to the top.

He said that the coaches being trained were expected to be in charge of a grassroots drive that FAZ had embarked on in its 10-year strategic plan.

He said that FAZ had instituted various grassroots programmes to ensure Zambia returned to the Africa Cup of Nations and also make it to the World Cup.

Meanwhile FAZ Technical Director Lyson Zulu said that the association had opened up the training at a subsidized rate of K300 to ensure that more participants were captured.

Zulu said it was important that the coaches that handled grassroots programs were equipped with training.

He said that FAZ would also embark on the training of referees to ensure that football developed at the same pace across all fronts.

Among the participants are former Chipolopolo stars and active club players. There are also journalists, teachers and community coaches in the programme.
