ZAMBIA’S Green Eagles have a better chance of going further in the CAF Champions League because they are returning to the competition for the second time, says former Zanaco football Club striker Makundika Sakala.
Sakala said that Eagles would perform better than they did in previous season in the then Confederations Cup because of their better showing in the just ended season.
He told the Sun Sport that the team amassed some valuable experience from the campaign despite being ejected in the second round.
“I think this time round they will do a better job because they have tasted continental and have experienced it,” he said.
The former Zanaco and Nkwazi striker said Eagles had impressed him in the just ended season as it was exceptional despite not having any individual star players in their team. He noted that the Choma-based side did not have household names in its squad but still managed to top its stream and qualified to the Champions league.
“Green Eagles is a team that has impressed me, if you look at their structure, it doesn’t have big names in its line-up but it’s a team that has coordinated play,
“I think there is too much love and unity in the team that they make it even without even big players and they are going to make big players out of the team.
He said that the team had exhibited some good character in all the games they had played which would help them in Continental competitions.
Sakala was part of the Zanaco FC class of 2010 that went as far as the group stage in that season’s Confederations Cup under the late Coach Fighton Simukunda.
He also finished among the club’s top scorers chart in the competition.
