Unemployed man sued for pregnancy maintenance

LUCY PHIRI writes

A LUSAKA woman has sued her boyfriend in the Chelstone Local Court alleging that he does not support and care for her pregnancy.

Purity Kalonga,24, of Chainda Township told senior local court magistrate Charity Milambo that Bornface Kalunga,28, of the same area did give support to her pregnancy.

She told court that Kalunga did not care about her and has failed to buy food for her as advised by the clinic.

“My boyfriend does not support his pregnancy, I am four months pregnant and I need care and support from him in terms of food and money. I want him to start maintaining me with a K300 every month,” she said.

In defence, Kalunga said he did not refuse to support the pregnancy but could not do so now because he was out of employment.

“I am not working as at now, but immediately I find a job I will start supporting her, and the K300 she is talking about I cannot manage to give her monthly,” he said.

After hearing both statements, magistrate Milambo ordered Kalunga to start supporting the pregnancy at K300 every 21st of each month until she delivers.
