MAN, 22, FOUND DEAD IN WELL

AFTER missing for four days a 22-year-old man of Solwezi District in North-Western Province was found dead in a well.
The man, identified as Victor Chinyanta, of Chief Shakumbila’s area is believed to have drowned after being attacked and thrown into the well in Messenger Township by unknown people.
Commissioner of Police Hudson Namachila said the incident might have happened between 23:00 hours on May 3, 2019, and 23:00 hours on May 7, 2019.
He said the report was made on May 7, 2019 around 10:30 hours by Fred Mutoya, 59, of the same area step father of the deceased identified as Victor Chinyanta of chief Shakumbila chiefdom.
“A man of the said compound reported that his step-son went missing from home for four days and was found dead in the well around 10:00 hours in the compound about a kilometre away from his home,” Mr Namachila said.
“The scene was visited and the deceased’s body was found in a water well, which is about 12 metres deep,” he said.
Mr Namachila said when police inspected Mr Chinyanta’s body, they found it with a swollen tummy, a protruding tongue and was bleeding from the mouth.
The body also had abnormal swelling of the private parts.
Mr Chinyanta’s remains have since been buried.
Mr Namachila said police had started investigating the death.
Meanwhile, two people died in a road traffic accident on the Kasempa-Kaoma road.
Mr Namachila said the accident happened around 13:40 hours in Shapenda area about 20 kilometres south of the Kasempa Boma.
An over-speeding truck loaded with Rosewood logs went off the road, hit into a tree and overturned.
Mr Namachila identified the driver as Richard Zulu, 24, of Plot number 16/18 Makeni, Lusaka, who was driving a Freightliner.
“The truck driver lost control due to excessive speed, went off the road and hit into a tree and overturned. The two passengers identified as Agness Kapayi aged 48 years of Kaminzekenzeke in Mufumbwe district and Stephen Hampendi, 26, of the driver’s address had fatal injuries and died on the spot,” he said.
Mr Namachila said other passengers identified as Mogan Chanangalala, 45, of Mufumbwe district sustained a cut on the chin, Goodson Bulaya, 9, of the same address had a suspected fractured jaw while Mwendabai Wambulwa, 38, of Lusaka, sustained a cut on the head,” he said.
He said the cabin of the truck was extensively damaged and that the driver would be charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
