3 people drown on Lake Bangweulu

THREE people have drowned while four others have survived after the boat they were travelling in capsized on Lake Bangweulu in Luapula Province.
The speed boat carrying seven passengers which was cruising towards Chishi Island capsized yesterday (Tuesday) around 18:00 hours.
According to deputy police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the reason why the boat capsized was not yet established.
Mr Hamoonga identified the victims as Bana Mbuluma who was pregnant, her 4 year old daughter and a male person only identified as Bashi Lydia were feared dead.
“Police in Samfya received a report of drowning which occurred this evening 7th May,2019 around 1800 hours on Lake Bangweulu. Brief facts of the report are that, a speed boat carrying seven passengers was cruising towards Chishi Island when it capsized due to unknown reason.
“Three people only identified as Bana Mbuluma with unknown months of her pregnancy, her four years old daughter and a male person Bashi Lydia are feared dead,” Mr Hamoonga said.
He identified the four survivors as Kampongo the coxswain, Willard Kombe aged 18 years, Clement Chilufya aged 42 years and Caniscious Musenge all from Masanta Village, Chief Mwewa in Chifunabuli district.
He said the search has begun for the missing persons.
