A 46-YEAR-OLD Congolese has been arrested at Katima Mulilo border post in Sesheke District in Western Province for suspected human trafficking.
The suspect identified as Joseph Kazadi has allegedly been smuggling humans from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to unknown destinations.
Western Province Commissioner of Police Charles Lungu said Kazadi was intercepted by police in Sesheke at a named lodge following a tip from members of the public.
Mr Lungu said Kazadi was intercepted and detained on suspicion of human trafficking and related offences.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that the police in Sesheke last week on Monday, around 19: 00 hours, apprehended a male suspect, Joseph Kazadi, for suspected human trafficking from his country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, to unknown destination,” Mr Lungu said.
He said among the alleged trafficked persons were five females, including a two-year-old girl, and four males all from Mbuji-Mayi.
“What is certain is that the people were trafficked from DRC’s Mbuji-Mayi area and the final destination has not yet been established as we are still carrying out an investigation into the matter,” Mr Lungu said.
He said the victims were being held at Sesheke holding facility while the suspect was detained at Sesheke police station.
