SIX-FIVE girls have converged in Lusaka for the FAZ organized trials in preparations of the India Womens’ Soccer World Cup qualifiers slated for October.
FAZ communications manager Mwazi Chanda said the first batch of girls drawn from Lusaka Province and currently training at Independence Stadium would be joined by those from the remaining 9 provinces at the FAZ Technical Centre on Friday to bring the total to 100.
And Under-17 women national team coach Kangwa Kaluba said that the trials were important as they helped his technical bench conduct an early talent search.
He said this would in turn ensure there was adequate time to build a team that would compete at the 2019 COSAFA Youth Championship in September and World Cup qualifiers in October.
Kaluba said the pool of players was drawn from schools, community and futsal leagues.
He said that having already tasted World Cup qualification in 2014, the current crops of girls were motivated to do even better.
“On Friday we will have players coming from different parts of Zambia; they will join us so that we have one team,” Kaluba said.
