EMBATTLED Zesco United FC coach George Lwandamina was quoted out of context when he questioned the genuineness of disgruntled club fans that are above the age of 20, says club’s CEO Richard Mulenga.
The 2018 league winning coach has been subject of debate in the last few days after he was quoted in the media as having blasted disgruntled ZESCO United fans when he said those supporters were above 20 years and fans of old clubs such as Mufulira Wanderers, Kitwe United and other defunct Clubs.
But Mulenga said the coach was misunderstood and quoted out of context.
Mulenga said that Lwandamina spoke many positive things regarding the Club’s soccer but it was disappointing that an out of context conclusion was what was reported in the media.
“Following a story that appeared in some sections of the media quoting our coach George Lwandamina, castigating the fans , we wish to state that the coach was quoted out of context and would like to take the opportunity to apologize to our fans and other stakeholders for the misunderstanding this may have caused,’’ he said.
He said ZESCO United FC valued the contribution of all stakeholders towards team including the fans.
Mulenga said that the Club was currently engaging with the fans club executive committee to build a working relationship that the fans would use a platform to express their concerns and opinions.
He further said that his club valued all stakeholders concerns and opinions.
Meanwhile Mulenga called on fans to exercise restraint in singling out individuals for criticism and has further called for unity in its quest to retain the title.
