A man of LUSAKA has sued his wife for divorce on allegation that she is too violent and that she poured hot porridge on his hand and also doesn’t respect him as a husband.
This is a case in which Nelson Makungo, 32, taxi driver of Kamanga township sued his wife Violet Chibuye , 30, of Kaunda Square alleging that she did not respect him and that at one point poured hot porridge on him.
Makungo also told the court that his wife at one point poured hot porridge on him, a situation that scared him and that was why he thought of divorcing her.
This was before Chelstone Local court Presiding magistrate Mary Namangala.
“We got married in 2011 and we have two children together and dowry was partly paid but the problem is that I have never known peace in my house but still I gave her chance thinking she was going to chance her behavior,’’ Makungo told the court.
He said his wife always accuses him of not performing in the bedroom as a man and also tells him she did not have feelings for him.
‘’At one point she went out of the house without telling me and we tried talking with the family for a solution but to no avail. I don’t know respect in my own home, no wonder I said she should be taken back to her family so as to be taught how to live as a wife,” he said.
In defense, Violet Chibuye told the court that all marital disputes they have been experiencing were as a result of her husband’s promiscuous behavior.
‘’I never poured hot porridge on him like he said but he is the one who caused it because he started the fight when he found me cooking Nshima, so to defend myself, mistakenly the pot dropped and spilt that’s how he got burned and I also had some burns,’’ she said.
“My husband always sleeps out and what pains me the most is he usually calls his girlfriends in my presence and sometimes takes pictures and leaves the phone so that I see,‘’ she said.
‘’My husband urinates on the bed whenever he gets drunk and am the one who cleans up, he is so full of himself and doesn’t consider my feeling. He impregnated a certain woman who with guts came at home wanting to take over from me insisting that I leave the house because my husband did not love me anymore but her,’’ she said.
She further said that her husband had a tendency of putting the phone on loud speaker whenever he was talking to his girlfriend so that she gets annoyed and gives up.
‘’ Whenever we quarrel he threatens to kill me by pressing his hands tightly on my neck. I still love my husband despite all what am going through I don’t want to divorce him,” she said.
The case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
